FAQs
1. How do I get the wholesale price list?Call or email us and we will immediately send you the access information for our wholesale page. This access provides you with the price list of each model number for ordering. All prices quoted are wholesale in Canadian dollars. The privacy of this list is essential in protecting our retailers and is not available to the public. In this way, your clients are free to view the website without this information and your price to them remains your own. 2. What exactly is a ‘custom order’? I’d like more information about the John Michael Collection.Every single item in the John Michael Collection is a one-of-a-kind piece of furniture, which is not only part of its charm as an enduring historical conversation piece, it also guarantees that no client receives something that someone else already owns—a ‘unique’ benefit few other suppliers can offer. For example: Some doors for the ‘Front Door Series’ of vertical cabinets are more common than others and it’s easy to reproduce our standard models as shown. However, not all Storm Doors or Fancy Front doors are alike. Furthermore, a 19th-century door made into a Front Hall Mirror Coat Rack may have to be constructed using a completely different door, however, it can be embellished with rosettes or other decorations, or ordered clean- lined and simple, as per you or your client’s wishes. Please ask us about the cost for any additional embellishments when placing your order. The ‘Front Door Series’ and the Gated Wine Cabinet are the only items in the collection that cannot be changed in size as each piece is dependent on the door or the gate. Then, each piece is customized by the client. There are 14 antique colours to choose from: Orange Cottage, Grey, Most Green, Tuscan Yellow, Sky Blue, Duck Egg, Dark Cream, Lime, Antique White, Antique Black, Sage Green, Brown, Antique Red, and Custom Green Each piece then requires a decision regarding the cabinet backing. There are three choices: Wainscoting (Bead board), Barn Board or Wide Floor Boards, or Ceiling Tin. Then each backing is finished with a colour as ordered from the antique colour palette. As you can see, the design ideas are endless! Regarding the rest of the series—from the Entertainment units, Couch Tables (or side tables), Kitchen Island, Farm Table with bench(es), Dry Bar, Sink Stand— each can be ordered to size. Your client has a six foot couch? Order the six foot Couch Table. Choose a thin or thick wooden top. The most common wooden top finish is ‘Dark Walnut’ or a Matte Ebony Finish can be ordered. The most common wooden table top is made with thick yellow pine floor joists, which highlights the gorgeous wood grain when finished. Consider this: The absolute best selling piece is the Farm Table with benches. It comes in standard 6-foot or 7-foot lengths. Does your client want a smaller or larger piece? Square instead of rectangular? It’s also cut down to custom coffee table sizes! Again, consult with us for any custom order that’s not shown on the standard price list and we’ll get back to you with a quote. The Kitchen Island is another hugely popular piece. It can also be custom sized. The ‘look’—ceiling tile and turned out legs—is standard. Bed headboards come in standard Queen or King sizes. We can’t guarantee the ceiling tile pattern, but we can assure you that only a larger suitable decorative tin will be used. You choose the finished colour; each headboard is designed to be bolted onto a standard bed frame. And finally: These are solid wood pieces. The wooden table tops will withstand what any wooden table top could withstand. A hot pot lifted off the stove directly onto the table top will leave a burn mark. Water left standing for hours could mar the finish. However water left standing for a ½ hour will leave a cloudy mark on the finish that will disappear within hours. If you’re a retailer who wants one of these fine pieces as a ‘work table’ and your work is wet, messy, or involves cutting, we recommend you top it with glass cut to size. Many of our pieces, such as the Dry Bar or the Kitchen Island, live quite happily ever after as reception desks or price point areas. Many other retailers use the Front Door cabinetry and Step Back Hutches as showcases for their items and inevitably end up taking custom orders for interested clients. 3. What are the pieces finished in?Every piece is lacquered in a water-based varnish. Original pieces with several or more coats of paint are sealed to ensure there is no chipping. 4. How do I place an order?Explore the pieces on the website. Each has a model number. Contact us for pricing and further information. For the John Michael Collection, each order is a ‘custom order’ and we’re happy to work through these details with you over the phone, or advise if you would like a Unique Traditions Sales Representative to contact you. 5. Where else are these unique pieces available? The John Michael Collection has just come to Canada this year. It’s selling coast to coast.
6. What are the Shipping rates outside of Ontario? I’m concerned that freight will be prohibitive. We are already shipping to the Canadian East Coast and to the West Coast. We can provide you with estimates on what freight has cost other retailers in your area. Further, we always find the best shipping price for you and contact you with the final freight costs before shipping, so there are no unpleasant surprises on your end. You always remain in control of your order and we do our best to find the best route for you.
7. Can I visit your showroom to see the pieces in person?Absolutely! Some designers actually visit with their clients who want to feel the items and see the difference a solid wood piece can make to their collection. Just contact us for your own private viewing at our Kitchener, Ontario showroom.
